In the 1730 's in the bastions of the fortress were arranged double reduced flanks for a better firing to the ditches and in the corners of the bastions of earthen qovaliery were made. 30 April, 1785 Ahrensburg Castle was out of ranks by decree of Catherine II, however, there is a fortress garrison remained. With beginning of the construction of the fortress of Bomarzund on the Åland Islands in 1836 Ahrensburg as a fortified point finally lost its strategic value. All it's artillery and other equipment was sent to Åland Islands and the fortress was abandoned by it's garrison.
