The Lion's Pit, Castle (Arensburg)

The Lion's Pit

The Lion's Pit

The Tower 'Long Herman' is separated from the rest of the castle with such a deep ditch. Get into the tower is possible only by a wooden bridge, where I'm stay now maintaining balance with some difficulty (3 l. beer). At the bottom you can hear the roar of the Lions, which is recorded on a tape recorder. According to legend, there at the bottom of the ditch of the hungry wild lions were and the convicted to death were thrown to them. In 1381 year Bishop Heinrich II finished his frail path just here, because of some disagreements with other holy brothers on spending of budgetary funds.
