Traces of time

Almost everything in Caesarea, with the exception of the columns, is built from the local kurkar sandstone. This is not marble or granite, the material is porous, not resistant. It suffers from weathering, moisture (in Caesarea, by the way, up to half a meter of precipitation falls during the winter), and recently from industrial pollution.
