Josephus in his 'War of the Jews' described the construction of the port in detail. Archaeological research of 1975-2004 confirmed his information. It is especially valuable that, unlike other ports of the Mediterranean Sea, Sabastos has never been modernized and that an underwater archaeological park has been operating here since 2006.
