The aft turret of the 'pocket' battleship 'Gneisenau' (class 'Scharnhorst') was mounted on the battery. The battleship itself was bombed by the British in a dry dock in Kiel in February 1942, where it was taken to be re-equipped with a 380 mm caliber gun. Two of the three towers were survived, one was installed near Bergen (Fjell battery), and the second turret now here.
The picture shows the road to the battery, protected by a bunker with an anti-tank gun. To the left of the road so-called 'anti-tank wall' (Panzer-mauer) is seen.
