The fort met German invaders with fierce artillery and machine-gun fire. The destroyer of the Norwegian Navy Gyller helped to repel the attacks, on account of which two shot down German aircraft. Within two hours, three German attacks were repulsed, but as a result of airstrikes, the fort's main powder magazine blown up.
