The cannons of the Christiansholm fortress

The cannons of the 18th century on the bastions of the fortress overlook the Eastern Bay of Kristiansand. The fortress got its only test of fire in 1807 during the Napoleonic Wars, when HMS Spencer (74 guns, battleship of 3d rank, displacement 1917 tons) tried to capture Danish-Norwegian ships in the Eastern Bay, but being met by fierce fire from the Christiansholm's guns, was forced to retreat.
