Frederick II King of Denmark and Norway

Frederick II King of Denmark and Norway

Frederick II ruled from 1559 to 1588. He visited Norway only once in 1548, when the country had to swear allegiance to him and recognize him as the heir to the throne. It was king as a king, at the beginning of his reign, trying to restore the Kalmar Union, he dragged the country into the exhausting Seven-Year Northern War. Frederick achieved nothing but decline and ruin for he's country, but then, having listened to the advice of smart people, he began to deal with the economy, taxed the nobility, fought piracy in the Baltic, patronized the sciences and art, and was religiously tolerant. And this city was founded by him at the same time.
