Exit to the city from Bryggescansen . In July 1716 the Swedish army of Charles XII suddenly appeared in the area and tried took Fredriksten fortress by surprise attack in this place. As the main part of the garrison quartered in the city, Charles XII had a plan to got Bryggescansen, cut the fortress from troops in the city and easy capture the fortress. 600 Swedes with the king himself at the head broke through to this goat, but failed to go further, thanks to the vigilance of the Norwegian guardsman. Losing half of their squad killed and wounded, Swedes were forced to retreat.
