Construction of the fortress was completed by the grandson of Charles X - Charles XII in 1711. There are no evidences about the fighting near the fortress during the Great Northern War, except for some shooting with Russian ships in 1717.
In 1743-1751 the fortress was repaired, but in 1788 it was demolished in the eve of a new war with Russia. King Gustav III ordered all the artillery move to Finland and there were no armament to defend the place.
