Hämeenlinna Fortress - a view from the East

The panorama of the eastern side of the fortress is decorated with a number of prison buildings built in the 1830s-70s of the 19th century. The 'Russian' period of the fortress began in the spring of 1808. Hämeenlinna was a military base until the end of the 1860s, but it was a prison until the very end of the 1990s.
