Fresnel lens, Bengtskär Lighthouse (Hanko)

Fresnel lens

Fresnel lens

The device was invented and implemented by the French scientist Augustin Fresnel in the early 1820s specifically for lighthouses. It can focus the light flux in such a way that the light of a weak lamp can be seen at a distance of 20-30 km. In addition, by rotating the lens around the light source, you can set the beacon to flash periodically, which makes it more noticeable.
