After the 1948 War of Independence, the all of that fell into the hands of the Jordanians. Part of the school was occupied by a UN agency help Palestinian refugees, the rest of it was used as military barracks. Over the course of 19 years, the Jordanians turned the hill into a well-fortified infantry stronghold, which the Israelis had to take in June 1967 with a bloody and stubborn struggle.
The picture shows a barbed wire fence on Ammunition Hill against the backdrop of new buildings in New Jerusalem. There were 5-6 rows of such barriers.
