Herod the Great, in order to further strengthen his personal power (he had a luxurious palace nearby), rebuilt the Citadel in the form of a closed fortification with three huge towers with the names 'Phasail', 'Miriam' and 'Hippicus' after the name of Herod's brother, who committed suicide; Herods wife killed by Herod out of jealousy and hes best friend-comrade.
