Cistern Saturion

Until 1st century AD it was an open basin for collecting rainwater from the old Hasmonean aqueduct. It also served as a protective moat for the nearby Antonia fortress. The picture clearly shows the boundaries of the old pool. We are now at the northwest corner of the Temple Mount.
