Via Dolorosa - Path of Sorrow

Via Dolorosa - Path of Sorrow

From the Lion Gate to the Church of the Holy Sepulcher there is a narrow street called Via Dolorosa or the Way of the Cross, along which, according to legend, Jesus Christ was led to execution. Along its route, several points or 'stations' are marked, serving as places of worship. The first station is near the El-Omaria madrassa, on the site of which in ancient times as it is believed the Roman praetorium was located. The second one here is the 'Pilate's courtyard' with the 12th century Crusader church. (Church of the Flagellation, rebuilt in the early 1900s).
