Zedekiah's Grotto, Undergrounds (Jerusalem)

Zedekiah's Grotto

Zedekiah's Grotto

There is a rather extensive grotto of natural origin with a hole through which water flows.
'Zedekiah's Cave' is another name for this place. According to legend, Zedekiah (Tzidkiyahu) was the king of Judah during the Babylonian invasion. During the storming of Jerusalem, Zedekiah and his family tried to escape from the city through this cave, but were captured. His family was slaughtered, and he himself was blinded and sent to Babylon. This stream is called 'Tears of Zedekiah'. There is a sign attached nearby that says you can’t drink the water because it’s dirty and you can get sick.
