Underpasses

Warren carried out excavations in Jerusalem using the mine method - he made a pit, about 50 meters distance from the walls of the Temple Mount because non-Muslims were not allowed to get closer, then dug a tunnel right down Temple Mount, into the Holy of Holies, and found a lot of interesting there. The Arabs called him 'Mole'. In 1870, the authorities in Istanbul banned all excavations in the Old City of Jerusalem (apparently Warren ran out of money for bribery), the good news was over, and from then until 1967 no ecxavations were carried out here.
