Dome over the Rock

Dome over the Rock

Al-Masjid Qubbat al-Sakhra - that's how it sounds in Arabic. It has a dome with a diameter of 20 meters. It was built in 687-691 under Caliph Abd al-Malik from the Umayyad dynasty. It was destroyed several times during earthquakes, restored and rebuilt. Infidels are strictly not allowed inside of it. The tower in the foreground is called as Chain Minaret (1329).
