View of the famous building from the fortress walls. It was built in 1930-31 according to the design of the Swiss architect Emile Vogt. It is famous for the fact that various royal persons lived in it, both active and fugitive, such as the Spanish King Alfonso XIII, or the Emperor of Ethiopia Haile Selassie. In the 1940s, the headquarters of the British administration was located here, which was blown up in 1946 by bombers from the Jewish underground organization Irgun. Nowadays it is probably one of the most expensive hotels in Israel with “royal” and “presidential” rooms.
