In front of the square there is a park with date palms. Dates on palm trees are approximately 2 (two!) times larger than those sold in my home Russia. In the background is the previously mentioned Papal Center and the houses of the Morasha (Misrara) district.
Just on the square in front of the gate there is a parking lot with Arab minibuses, which also operate on Shabbat. From here you can go to Bethlehem and other places in the West Bank (although you will still have to change buses at the border with the Palestinian Authority). It is not recommended to do this alone especially if you are foreigner. Not that it’s dangerous, although not without it, but, as they say, it can turn out to be much more expensive for you...
