Next to the Jaffa Gate, there is an impressive breach in the fortress wall, through which a road leads to the Old City. The breach was made in 1898 by the Turks before the visit to Jerusalem Kaiser Wilhelm II. This autocratic Kaiser read somewhere that whoever enters to the gate of Jerusalem on a white horse will rule the world. Well, he was quite impatient. In order not to spoil international relations and protect the world from such a misfortune, the cunning Turks demolished part of the wall - go ahead dear Kaiser, but not through the gates...
