Breach in the Wall and Jaffa Gate

View of the breach in the wall from the inside. The walls of the Citadel are visible on the left, and the Jaffa Gate on the right. The Arabs call them Bab el-Khalil or the Gate of the Friend. Built in 1538 on the site of an ancient gate on the road to Hebron.
An important point: as you exit the gate into the Old Town, immediately along the wall to the left there is an inconspicuous narrow passage, at the end of which there is a ticket office (entrance to the walls is paid). There are two routes along the walls, the ticket is valid for both and you don’t need to buy the second one. The entrance to the eastern route is next to the ticket office, for the western route you need to go around the Citadel.
