Sha'ar Ha'ashpot is Arab name of this gate, another name is the Dung Gate. Until the 1950s, there was a small gate of one and a half meters wide, then they were expanded by order of the Jordanian authorities. It acquired its current appearance after reconstruction in 1968. They are mentioned in the Book of Nehemiah, but their exact location is unknown. As the name suggests, they served for removing garbage and household waste outside the city.
