In the old days, Merchant harbor was tightly packed with wooden ships and steamers (80 pieces or even more). Cooking over a fire on the ships was prohibited strictly because danger of fire. A cook could only be here in purposely arranged on the premises of this building with the small port tax from 2 to 5 cents per ton of ship's displacement. The building is interesting by the fact that in 1912 there was opened the first in the history of Russia city power station, to supply an electric power apartments of Kronstadt inhabitants.
