Peter the Great Dock

Construction of the dock started in 1719 on behalf of the decree of Peter the Great by mobilized soldiers, peasants, war prisoners and local residents. It was planned to finish it spring 1721, but work was delayed because of heavy soils, storms, pestilence among working people, thieves contractors. It is an usual things in the implementation of large-scale national projects in this country. The works were finished only in 1752.
