The pool is a basic technical highlight of the entire dock's structure. The pool accommodates one and half a volume of all Petrovsky dock and located below the bottom of the dock, so that the water flows by itself into it. In Europe, there is no such technical miracles, because there was so much free labor - serfs and disenfranchised soldiers on which bones all Kronstadt and St.Petersburg are based.
On the the mound of left side of the pool in 1777 first in Russia industrial steam engine was installed. The engine was made in England and had power of 180 horses to pump water out of the pool. Before engine installation the water was removed from the pool by the windmills and the pool dried for six weeks. With the machine it takes a couple of days.
