This is the oldest surviving building on the territory of the fortress. The former guardhouse now houses the Cavalry Museum, dedicated to the history of the Finnish cavalry from the time of the once famous Hakkapeliitta of the 30 Years' War to the present day. Cavalrymen have been quartered in Lappeenranta since 1880 (Finnish Dragoon Regiment). In the foreground is a memorial sign in honor of the city's first parish church.
