The picture shows the northern slope the height of Latrun. In 1948, no trees or bushes were here, everything was bare and attackers had no shelters, no digs. Without tanks and artillery only hope was for surprise attack at night. Eventually the bypass road to Jerusalem was constructed hastily to the south of Latrun.
