Roman siege tower

Illustration of the basic idea of the assault fitted on the ancient stones of Masada is shown. The height of the siege towers was exceed the height of the fortress walls, so Romans could knock defenders from the parapet, and after it was possible to proceed with the destruction of wall itself by battering machines at lower tier of the tower. Tower apparently was assembled at the bottom, and then with blocks under the covering of archers and ballista, hauled up to a specially arranged platform under the wall. The number of combat deaths of X legion we do not know for sure, but they must have been considerable.
