After purchasing of Narva fortress a new stone fortifications were constructed around the city and the castle by Livonians knights. It was urgent affair because constant Pskov and Novgorod threat (burning the city in 1367). Fortifications of Livonians era consisted of walls of 10 m height and 1.5-2 m thick with round towers and 1.5-2 m deep moats. The towers could provide a flank fire along the walls.
