Bridge over Volkhov river

A modern pedestrian bridge across the Volkhov river from the second half of the last century. In the background is the Arcade of the Gostiny Dvor and the Churches of Yaroslav's Court. Somewhere here there was once an ancient wooden bridge, on which plenary discussions about decisions of the Novgorod Veche took place. The losing side usually got home by swimming, wiping the blood from their broken noses...
