Novgorod Detinets (Kremlin)

Novgorod Detinets (Kremlin)

This is the oldest stone fortification in Rusland - for the first time it is mentioned in 1044. Older than Moscow so much. To say the true, what is shown in the picture are the walls of the 15th century, erected immediately after the conquest of Novgorod by Moscow in 1478. The new fortress was started by construction in 1484 on the old basis, i.e. on the foundations and, apparently, with the inclusion of the old masonry in the array of new walls. Construction was completed in 1499. Detinets is the original Novgorod's name, the Kremlin as the name for this fortification was used only after the Muscow conquest.
