It was installed in the very center of the Novgorod Kremlin in 1862. Design by artist A. Mikeshin, builder - engineer N. Evreinov. The tier of large sculptures at the top expresses the entire national history: the calling of the Varangians, the baptism of Rus', the Mongol-Tatars, the beginnings of autocracy, the empire. On the lower tier are outstanding figures of Russian history who contributed to the development of Russia - generals, kings, scientists, writers, poets, etc. By the way, among them there is no Ivan Gorozny, as well as such characters as Arakcheev and Benkendorf.
