Monument to Oscarsborg's commandant Colonel Birger Erichsen (1875 - 1958) is mounted in view of the fortress near the city church. He was buried in the local church seen on the background at first, but in 1977 his remains were solemnly buried at the memorial cemetery Vår Frelsers in the center of Oslo.
"It is not hard to shoot the gun, much harder to make a decision to open fire" - Birger Erichsen about his war experience.
