On the new fort was armed with 97 guns on two tiers. These walls stand on a foundation of wooden piles driven in 4 rows, on which a 1 meter layer of a mixture of hydraulic lime, pebbles and sand was laid. This solid foundation sustained not only the walls and the cannons, but also the later superstructures in the form of an additional floors, built at the end of the 19th century. The construction of the fort was supervised by Alexander Fullon (1764-1844).
