The citadel or fortress within a fortress is the last refuge for its defenders. It had a single entrance with a drawbridge over a moat with water. It had three towers - Melnichnaya, Kolokolnaya (in the picture there is a red brick massif in the center) and Svetlichnaya (its remains are visible on the left). The Kolokolnaya (Bell) Tower, as the name suggests, had a bell as well as a clock. The bell rang on the day and hour of the capture of Noteburg fortress by Russians. Under the Swedes, the tower was called “Katze”, i.e.'Cat' Tower, nobody knows why. In 1882, the old tower was dismantled, and in its place this brick monstrosity was built as a water tower. There are plans to dismantle the monstrosity and restore old tower, fortunately the foundations of it have been preserved.
