Moat around the Citadel

The photo shows an arch in the fortress wall, along which boats from the Neva river could sail into the canal around the citadel. The channel was quite large; it is reported that its width was 10-12 m. The arch had a wooden gate and a lowering grate, the slit of it can be distinguished in the photo.
