Golovin Tower - ShlisselburgNext photo - 150 kb

It was founded at the end of the 15th century and it is one of the most powerful towers of the fortress, since it faces the potential enemy - Sweden. The Swedes called it 'Kyrktornet', i.e. the 'Church' tower, why this is not entirely clear. In the 18th century, it was listed in documents at first as the Corner Tower, then as the Golovin Tower, named after Field Marshal F. Golovin, who supervised the construction of the bastion next to it. Many towers of the Shlisselburg fortress received their new names 18th century in the same way.
