New prison, view from the Shlisselburg fortress wall

Where the museum administration is now, there used to be a space divided into wooden cages for prisoners to walk around. The weakest were allowed to walk in groups of two. In 1886, prisoners obtained permission to plant vegetable gardens measuring 15x5 meters in these nooks.
