Former soldier's barracks, then military and criminal prisons, and then 1st prison Corps is on the photo. It was nicknamed 'The Menagerie' because of its curious internal arrangement - corridors the entire length of the building ran along 8 open cells, covered with bars from floor to ceiling. All the cells were located near the wall adjacent to the fortress fence. Light entered the cells only through the windows on the opposite wall of the corridor. Thus, the prisoners were kept in a kind of cage, like wild animals in a zoological garden. The building once had a 2-story arcade and was separated from the fortress courtyard by a small moat.
