Granite stronghold

Legend said that somewhere in the casemates of this bastion in September 1777, during a big flood, the unfortunate Princess Tarakanova, a prisoner of the Peter and Paul Fortress, died. She declaring that she was Elizabeth, the daughter of Empress Elizabeth Petrovna (in fact, she died two years earlier in the basements of the Commandant's House ).
