Degerby fortress

In 1740s on the site of the present Loviisa city huddled unremarkable small village called Deger-By (Big Village - Sweden). The idyllic rural life continued until 1746, until the Riksdag decided to build a strong fortress there to protect the new border with Russian Empire. The mighty fortress of the 6th bastions should cut off the old Royal road to Helsinki. In the picture the Bastion Rosen is shown.
