The grave of the founder of the fortress in the Great Fortress Court of Sveaborg is on the photo. He died on his estate Münemäki near Abo on October 4, 1772 because of pneumonia. Three months before his death, he received from king Gustav III the count's title and the rank of Field Marshal. The coffin with his body was in the cathedral of Abo for some time. In 1783, in the presence of the king, he was buried here in the castle courtyard. According to Gustav III’s drawing, Erensvärd’s son Carl Augustus and engineer Eric Ren created this monument, which was completed in 1807 just six months before the fortress was surrendered to Russian troops.
