Bastion Scheffer

It was erected in 1751–1757 along with the bastion Stiernroos and the tenal wall between them to protect the island from the south. The bastion was modernized by the Russians in the 1830s, after that the hospital kitchen was placed in it's casemates, in the 1900s the smithy was there, after that - the kerosene warehouse and the tractor garage. A rich story! The current devastation happened during the WWI, when the southern front of the bastion was demolished during the construction of the infectious disease ward.
