Mast forest

Lindulovskaya Grove was created by decree of Tsar Peter I in 1732 specifically for growing timber for the sailing fleet. Trees in such a forest must be at least 24 meters high, have a slight taper and a few branches. Illegal logging in such a forest was punishable by 'deprivation of the belly', i.e. death.
